The Canadian Shield Association Conference (TAC) is an important annual shield industry event in Canada, bringing together the top and most innovative companies and professionals in the tunnel underground construction industry in Canada and globally.

Meeting Minutes

The 3-day meeting was held in the city center of Toronto, Ontario. The main topic of the meeting was to emphasize the commitment to sustained industry growth and sustainability. The meeting mainly introduced the green carbon reduction design, construction and delivery of tunnels, as well as the use of innovative technologies and materials in tunnel construction.

As a first-time participant, Biaosheng Technology Experiment (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. had the opportunity to communicate and discuss the selection and application of new materials in green tunnel construction with numerous professionals in the industry:

NO.1

Explore with China Railway Equipment how to use simulation technology to predict the flow of shield tail grease and main bearing sealing grease, in order to prepare for the corresponding work in advance;

NO.2

We discussed with MAPEI the significance and testing methods of the shield tail oil standard we have established;

NO.3

Explored waterproofing concepts for operating tunnels with Strata company;

NO.4

We have showcased our new product, Baosheng 70, to numerous contractors and material suppliers such as VINCI, SYSTRA, and DICORP. Our new product has received unanimous recognition from everyone, and the Scarborough Metrolinx Metro Extension Project Department has invited us to provide solutions to the problems encountered during its construction process.

Metro Scarborough Metrolinx

The Scarborough Metrolinx subway extension project is located in the western part of Toronto, with a total length of 7.8 kilometers. It is excavated and excavated using a 12m diameter Herrick earth pressure balance shield machine. The main route is through sandy formations with poor stability, and it requires continuous crossing of municipal buildings and the busiest highway in North America: Highway 401, which has extremely high requirements for surface settlement control. After the shield tunneling machine entered the sand layer from the beginning, the settlement was difficult to control, with a maximum settlement of 50mm, causing the municipal water pipe to rupture and forcing the excavation to be suspended.

After understanding the relevant situation, we provided them with a detailed introduction to the method of adding Baosheng 70 to bentonite slurry to make a new type of thixotropic slurry, as well as the concept of injecting the new type of thixotropic slurry into the outer ring of the shield shell to prevent and suppress settlement. At the same time, we provided them with the usage and data of the new type of thixotropic slurry prepared by Baosheng 70 in previous tunnel propulsion.
